ALPHA CODE

The Alpha Code is a code of conduct that governs the brothers of Phi-Sigma Zeta. It was instituted by the Alpha Class during the formation of the colony that became a Chapter in 1979, and has been member conduct-law ever since. The brothers of Phi-Sigma Zeta are proud of the Alpha Code, as it has largely contributed to the success of our chapter, its members and alumni. The following words of wisdom are the ideals upon which the founding members of our Chapter based the Alpha Code.

Humbleness – A brother should always be aware of his shortcomings. A brother will always be proud of his achievements, yet will respect those who cannot accomplish his achievements. A brother will always be humble in the spirit of brotherhood.

Every brother shall be a gentleman at all times. A brother shall be considerate and well behaved in front of others. A brother shall use proper language and be polite around all women. A brother shall not be harsh, severe, or violent in the presence of women. A brother should always be aware of his behavior in public. A brother should always be aware that he is a brother, and he represents a group of well-behaved men.

Accountability – A brother realizes that he is left accountable for his actions and that he is responsible for rendering any of the consequences for those actions. A brother will always be accountable for upholding the laws of the fraternity and for his behavior in public.

Love (brotherly love) – A brother will always love his fellow brother even when the going gets tough. Brothers will always be aware of the bond of brotherly love that binds them together. A brother will always follow the golden rule and will always love his brother through thick and thin.

Pride – A brother shall always be prideful but polished in everything he attempts. A brother shall always be satisfied with his achievements no matter the outcome. A brother will always abide by the rules of good sportsmanship, and always show the winner of the match the he, too, has won. A brother will always respect the pride of others. A brother shall always radiate pride in Lambda Chi Alpha.

Honor – A brother shall honor himself and others around him. A brother shall realize that it is a great privilege to be a brother and never overlook that fact. A brother shall display honor where honor is due. A brother shall defend a woman’s honor when appropriate. A brother shall always honor another brother’s idea.

Humor A brother shall have a good sense of humor at all times. A brother will be able to make fun of a bad situation and walk away from it in a better state of mind than when he went in. A brother remembers that every situation is an experience and to get the most of every situation you have to make the best of them. Life is in fact a bundle of experiences, and so too, is the brotherhood of Lambda Chi Alpha.

Courteous – A brother shall be considerate of others at all times. A brother shall exhibit gracious manners in any situation he may be in. A brother shall always be friendly to strangers. A brother shall be a good neighbor to his fellow man. A brother shall be courteous to women at all times. A brother will be courteous to the brotherhood at all times.

Openhearted – A brother shall always be openhearted and willing to listen to new ideas and concepts. A brother will always respect another person’s opinion. A brother shall always be fair in judging a situation. A brother should always be alert to help another brother in his time of need.

Desire – A brother constantly desires to make himself better, and does so. A brother will always have the desire to give his input to the brotherhood, and does so. A brother shall always have the desire to share, and does so. A brother will always have the desire to help where help is needed, and does so.

Every brother realizes that there is a time and a place for everything. Every brother knows that he can trust his fellow brothers with absolutely no doubts. Every brother realizes that he plays an important part in the Brotherhood, and that without lambda Chi Alpha, his life would be strange. Every brother appreciates the Brotherhood of Lambda Chi Alpha.
